  What is Caisis?
Caisis is an open-source Web application designed to bridge the gap between clinical research and clinical practice by addressing numerous issues in documentation of patient data. The application was originally designed to track data pertaining to urologic cancer, but now has expanded to track data of other cancers. The project was initiated with the goal of improving data quality and accuracy, while reducing time and effort for clinicians and support staff.

The Caisis open-source application and all of its source code is freely available for download under the General Public License (GPL), an open-source license approved by the Open Source Initiative.

The project team comprises a diverse group of participants from many institutions. These team members are working to build a community of developers and contributors from universities, hospitals, and organizations all over the world.
The New York Prostate Institute has been one of the first organizations to adapt Caisis— an effort named the Haliard project. Caisis provided the foundation for the Haliard Radiation Oncology "Seed Management" system. The Haliard project represents a major goal of the Caisis project: to share the work of the core project team, so that other organizations can benefit from the experience gained addressing common clinical and research issues.

Because the Caisis team strives to meet the ever evolving demands of this ambitious project, the core members seek developers, specialists, and staff who are willing to provide their expertise and advice, so that the application can be modified and improved. If you would like to become a member of or contribute to Caisis, please contact us at participate@caisis.org.
